Move the cursor as you wish

Excel

When working in a spreadsheet in Excel, your cursor is in one of the cells. After entering the data, when we press the enter key, the cursor moves to another cell. Normally the highlighted cell (i.e. the cell that has the cursor) is highlighted by pressing the Enter key after the work is done and the cell below that cell is highlighted and the cursor reaches it.

This feature is useful when we want to enter data in one cell after another in a vertical column but when we want to enter data in one column after another in a horizontal row, after entering data in a cell, press the enter key if the cursor moves to the cell below it. We have to take it again in the cell to the right in the upper row.

It doesn't take much time to enter a lot of data in Excel. As a solution to this, we can set the cursor to move in the direction we expect, rather than pressing the Enter key.

By this steep:-

  • Clicking on the Windows icon at the very top left in Excel which opens a window in which click on the Excel option at the bottom.

  • Now in the window that opens click on Advanced in the left panel.

  • Now the window that opens will see an editing option at the top.

  • The first option will have a dropdown box with the text After pressing enter move selection direction. It can be used to move our cursor downwards, upwards, or to the left.

  • Select the left option in this drop-down list and proceed to say OK.

Now, whenever you press the Enter key when a cell is highlighted the cursor will move to the cell on the left and that cell will be highlighted.
