This butterfly-shaped image was recently taken with the help of a very large telescope. Called NGC 2899 (NGC stands for New General Catalog, which lists nebulae and other such microscopic astral bodies.) The galaxy is located 3,000 to 6,500 light years from Earth. According to the ESO, ultraviolet radiation illuminates a gas sphere around the star and produces a lot of luminosity. Very large telescopes are the most advanced optical devices that capture such activities.
The European Southern Observatory has shared a picture of 'Space Butterfly' on its Twitter account. The ESO writes, "Due to its shape, beautiful color and distinctive pattern, there is a wonderful butterfly-shaped gas bubble NGC 2899, which can be seen flying in the sky and its image has been captured by our VLT."
